Minnesota recycler installs single-stream system

Dem-Con’s new facility serves the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.

The MRF, which began operating in November 2013, is housed in a new 60,000-square-foot building and has the capacity to process 275 tons of recyclables per day, providing surrounding communities the opportunity to participate in single-stream recycling, according to the company. Dem-Con’s MRF serves the Minneapolis/St. Paul area as well as greater Minnesota.

Additionally, Dem-Con installed an educational room at the facility where the public can view the recycling process. The new educational room contains an enlarged rendering of the system, where the Dem-Con team can “walk” people through the system before they head out onto the floor. It also contains an end market room that allows individuals to get hands-on experience while learning what materials can and cannot be recycled.

“We are excited to provide these services to the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota and be an active part of increasing recycling rates and diverting more materials from landfills,” says Bill Keegan, vice president of Dem-Con.

The MRF, with all equipment provided by the CP Group, includes the latest in recycling equipment technology. The screening technology separates fibers from containers, and the MSS Aladdin optical sorter separates plastics recovered for recycling, the CP Group says. The system also contains a magnet as well as two IPS Balers: a two-ram baler for multimaterial baling and the Conquest for fiber baling.

“I am very impressed with the commitment Dem-Con has made to recycling, to education and to giving back to the community," says Howard Fiedler, CP Group sales engineer. "The Dem-Con team is a highly progressive group and is clearly becoming one of the leading vertically integrated recyclers in the Midwest, as evidenced by their single-stream/commercial recycling as well as by  their construction and demolition recycling operations. Dem-Con walks the talk when it comes to recycling."

The CP Group consists of five companies: CP Manufacturing, Krause Manufacturing, MSS, IPS Balers and Advanced MRF. The company engineers, manufactures and installs MRFs for single-stream, construction and demolition, municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial recycling, as well as front-end waste-to-energy systems and eWaste recycling.
