Oregon-based West Salem Machinery’s (WSM) pre-screening technology is designed to reduce energy and maintenance costs on grinding systems.
A screen, installed before the grinder, removes acceptably sized material and any metal contamination prior to grinding. This decreases maintenance and power costs, and potentially reduces the size of the grinder. High-volume disc screens or vibrating screens are commonly used in this capacity. Typical applications include pre-screening of sawdust, shavings and fine wood from biomass fuel or pre-screening of mulch prior to entering the finish grinding system. Screens are available with screening surfaces up to 6 feet wide and have a capacity of 5 to 500 tons per hour. WSM also offers custom-portable units that operate on 5 to 25 horsepower and are designed to provide reductions in grinding costs.
