Xanterra Parks & Resorts Creates Green Suites

Suites incorporate recycled content carpet, other green building features.

 

National park concessioner Xanterra Parks & Resorts has announced the creation of its new Green Suites at Zion Lodge in Utah’s Zion National Park. The goal of the project was to incorporate as many environmentally sustainable features as possible and to ultimately reduce the consumption of natural resources and eliminate waste.

 

Environmentally sustainable features of the suites in the historic lodge include:

 

  • Recycled content interface Entropy Carpet, which contains more than 70 percent recycled content.
  • Sustainable bamboo floor entryway.
  • Dual Flush toilets.
  • Renewable solar and wind energy using a 15kW onsite solar photovoltaic energy system to power rooms.
  • Filtered drinking water facets.
  • Compact fluorescent lighting.

 

Other notable practices include reducing water usage by only serving water on demand in the restaurants and discontinuing the use of table cloths, composting 40,000 pounds of food waste per year, in-room recycling and restoring two acres of non-native grassland to its natural state.
