World of Asphalt Update

2007 event to offer continuing education tour of National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT).

The World of Asphalt 2007 Show and Conference will conduct a continuing education tour of the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) in conjunction with the show.

The tour of this national asphalt research and testing facility is open to only registered attendees, and is designed to extend the educational value of the show’s exhibits and conferences.

World of Asphalt 2007 will be held March 19-2007 at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta. The tour of the facility, which is housed at nearby Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., will be March 23.

Participants will earn continuing education credits through NCAT. “This tour is an opportunity for attendees to expand their knowledge of the latest asphalt technological innovations and practical applications,” says World of Asphalt Show Manager Melissa Magestro.

NCAT was created in 1986 through an agreement between the NAPA Education Foundation and Auburn University. It works to improve hot mix asphalt performance through research, education and information services. Emphasis is on research that can be readily applied by industry and by state and federal governments.

NCAT’s research has been conducted for more than 20 state transportation departments, the Federal Highway Administration and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program.

NCAT tour participants will meet with NCAT engineers and technicians and have the opportunity to network and discuss industry issues. They’ll visit testing labs where open grade friction testing, volumetric and compaction testing, flectural strength tests and aggregate specification testing take place.
