Three smokestacks at the shuttered Wood River Power Plant in East Alton, Illinois, were felled by implosion on March 14, RiverBender.com reports.
St. Louis-based Spiritas Wrecking Co. is the demolition contractor in charge of the job. They have been working on the coal-fired power plant for more than a year performing decommissioning work.
The adjacent Wood River Power Plant was demolished by implosion on Feb. 1. Since then, crews have been hauling debris away from the site while prepping the stacks for implosion.
St. Louis-based Commercial Liability Partners purchased the site in September 2019 following Dynegy Midwest Generation’s decision to close the power plant in 2016.
The plant featured two coal-fired units that commenced operations in 1954 and 1964, respectively.
