West Coast Green Could Draw 12,000

September San Francisco show concentrates on residential green building

West Coast Green, a residential green building conference, has announced more details of its 2007 event, which organizers say could draw more than 12,000 attendees.

West Coast Green’s 2006 event attracted 9,000 people from throughout North America to its three-day inaugural event. The 2007 version, scheduled for September 20-22 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, will host presentations delivered by industry analysts, green building experts and political leaders.

The event’s organizers refer to green building as “the only significant area of growth in the residential market.”

Educational tracks at the event will cover a variety of topics, including construction, design, energy, government policy, landscaping, planning and development, and “green technology.”

The last day of the event, Sept. 22, is “Homeowner Day,” when the conference opens its doors to the general public. On that day, community leaders such as San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and others will offer remarks.

Homeowners looking to design and build a new, energy-efficient green home, or those looking to upgrade the efficiency of their existing homes, will benefit from walking the trade show floor, abounding with hundreds of products and services to build, remodel, power, insulate, clean, furnish and finance their green homes.

“The general mood of West Coast Green is a call for paradigm shifts,” says Katie Kurtz of worldchanging.com, in an editorial about West Coast Green. “The current environmental movement is now framed as a consumerist’s movement.”

West Coast Green has also partnered with Extreme Green Homes and Sunset Magazine to construct a high-performance green home in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza in front of City Hall and the Bill Graham Civic Center, where West Coast Green is held. Designed by Michelle Kaufmann, the mkLotus ™ home is built utilizing off-site modular technology and promises to feature the most advanced green technology and sustainable materials available on the market.

Among the sponsors of West Coast Green 2007 are PG&E, Google, Sunset Magazine, Terra Mai, Sun Light & Power, Build It Green, the City of San Francisco, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Green Building Council.
