Waste Management of Wisconsin Settles Lawsuit

The state of Wisconsin’s Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that his office has settled a case with Waste Management of Wisconsin regarding its metro recycling and disposal facility located in Franklin, Wis. The complaint, filed October 9, 2009, in the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, alleges violations of Wisconsin's air pollution laws relating to the construction and operation of stationary sources of air pollution without construction permits issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The company has agreed to pay $75,000 in forfeitures, statutory charges, and costs. The case was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The settlement was approved by Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge William S. Pocan

"Wisconsin law requires that industrial facilities comply with permits designed to protect the public from harmful air emissions," said Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. "The Wisconsin Department of Justice will continue to work with the DNR to ensure that Wisconsin’s citizens and natural resources are protected through compliance with the law."

Assistant Attorney General Cynthia Hirsch prosecuted the case.
