In memoriam: Walter Sellick

Walter Sellick, the founder of Sellick Equipment, Harrow, Ontario, died Jan, 10, 2017, at the age of 98. He is survived by sons, Howard and David; daughter, Heather; many grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

Born in 1918, Sellick was raised on a farm in Harrow and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945. 

Sellick managed a Ford tractor dealership for many years before, at the age of 50, he embarked on a new career with Howard and David, establishing Sellick Equipment Ltd., manufacturers of rough terrain forklifts, Jan. 1, 1969.

A former mayor of Harrow, Sellick also was a member of the Harrow Rotary, a former member of the Harrow and Colchester South Fire Department and a former chairman and board trustee of the Harrow and Colchester South School Board. Additionally, he was an avid pilot and a member of several flying organizations and a life member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 338. 

Sellick served on the board of directors of the Equipment Manufacturers Institute (EMI), now the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), and helped pioneer the EMI rough-terrain forklift council.
