Volvo Construction Equipment adds to compact wheel loader line

Construction equipment manufacturer’s L45H and L50H compact wheel loaders are fully loaded for all-around performance.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, has added the L45H and L50H to its line of compact wheel loaders. The company says the new machines are built for greater fuel efficiency and improved hydraulic flow for faster cycle times at reduced operating cost.

With a new Volvo D4J Tier 4 Final engine, both the L45H and L50H boast a 15 percent improvement in fuel efficiency versus previous models, according to Volvo. The L50H also has a 20 percent improvement in hydraulic pump capacity, leading to 26 percent faster cycle times as compared to previous models, the company says.

“This is a very versatile size class that can get tough work done in confined spaces,” says John Comrie, product manager for compact wheel loaders at Volvo CE, “and with a laundry list of improvements that make the H-series more fuel efficient, more powerful and more versatile, all while making the operator more comfortable — the L45H and L50H are great choices for any application.”

The L45H and L50H feature Volvo’s intelligent load-sensing hydraulic system that drives power to the hydraulic functions according to demand for fast response, shorter cycle times and reduced fuel consumption, says Volvo CE. An optional boom suspension system (BSS) boosts productivity by up to 20 percent by absorbing shock and reducing bouncing and bucket spillage. Heavy-duty planetary axles ensure long life in the toughest conditions, and the front and rear 100 percent differential locks feature a dog clutch design to improve grip and maintain maximum traction on all terrain, the company says. These wheel loaders also feature a hydrostatic transmission that matches power to all operator requirements to provide control in delicate work and full power for more demanding jobs.

Volvo CE says L45H and L50H compact wheel loaders feature Volvo’s industry-leading cab for a comfortable, productive work shift. The optional comfort drive control (CDC) function gives the operator the choice to control the machine by a joystick lever mounted to the left-hand console, which improves operator comfort, reduces fatigue and ensures better productivity over long working hours. For increased safety, large, antislip steps and handrails ensure easy cab entry and exit, according to the company.

The new wheel loaders are designed to work in harmony with a range of Volvo attachments — from forks and buckets, to grapples and material handling arms — each matches the link-arm geometry to optimize breakout, rim pull and lifting force, according to the company. These machines can be factory-fitted with extra hydraulic lines to operate and run a variety of attachment options, and the standard attachment bracket is ISO-standardized for quick and easy interchange of attachments.
