Vecoplan Introduces SpeedMaster

Company says control system improves throughput and energy efficiency.

Vecoplan LLC, Archdale, N.C., has introduced the SpeedMaster Control System, which regulates a shredder’s cutting rotor drive. According to Vecoplan, the SpeedMaster improves a shredder’s processing efficiency.

The SpeedMaster uses a standard, asynchronous motor and a variable frequency drive and digital encoder to monitor and control shredder processing functions, resulting in lower power consumption as compared to similarly rated equipment and almost double the processing throughput, according to a press release from Vecoplan.

“This is a very nice development for customers who wan the absolute most performance from their shredder purchase and for those who wish to reduce high power bills,” Len Beusse, Vecoplan COO, says. “For just a little more money than the cost of our standard shredders, the SpeedMaster feature can be added,” he says. “That’s a lot of bang for just a few bucks more.”

According to Vecoplan, its SpeedMaster technology provides for full torque control throughout a wide speed range. “Conventional shredder drive motors have a narrow useable speed range with little or no control of actual rotor RPM or torque,” according to Vecoplan. However, the company says its SpeedMaster realizes a power savings of as much as 80 percent at the top of the speed range. Such control can be achieved manually by the operator or automatically through computerized controls liked to sensors within the machine.

The SpeedMaster is available only on Vecoplan’s single-shaft and twin-shaft shredder lines.
