A five-story former American Automobile Association (AAA) office building in downtown Detroit was demolished in mid-September, although the building may have been better known for its appearance in a Kid Rock music video.
According to www.DeadlineDetroit.com, the 5,800-square-foot building “was nudged into a pile of rubble” in a single day by a demolition crew. The demolition process was largely accomplished by two hydraulic material handlers, one of them equipped with a high-reach boom.
Beyond Detroit, the building may have been best known for its appearance in a 2011 music video featuring Kid Rock as well as T.I. and Angaleena Presley, in which the word “care” was painted on the structure in large letters while people also wrote their own messages on the vacant building.
A Wayne County (Michigan) Circuit Court judge ordered the building demolished in August after declaring the structure a nuisance.
DeadlineDetroit.com offers a time-lapsed video of the building’s eight-hour demolition here.
