U.K. Firm Adds Four Extec Crushers

PGC Demolition deploys four new Extec C-12+ track-mounted crushers.

PGC Demolition of Rochdale, United Kingdom, has solidified its recycling capabilities with the purchase of four new Extec C-12+ track-mounted mobile crushers.

According to a news release from Extec, the new units will be added “to an impressive equipment fleet that already includes a number of crushers and screens from Extec and its Sandvik Group stable-mate Fintec.”

PGC Demolition, a family-owned company operating involved in demolition, container placement, remediation and equipment rental, has purchased four new Extec C-12+ track-mounted mobile crushers.

“We chose the Extec C-12+ units for several reasons,” says PGC managing director Peter Cordwell. “We have run Extec and Fintec products for many years and they have always performed well. As we already had a good working relationship with the local sales rep, it made perfect sense to stick with the people, products and after sales support that we knew and trusted.”

One of the new crushers was immediately put into operation at a demolition site, while a second machine is operating at landfill site operated by Veolia Environmental Services.  The landfill is at a former sandstone quarry that has been worked for over 45 years and has been used as landfill site for at least 30 of those years.

Two large cells at the site are currently being reinforced and re-lined, with the crusher being used to prepare a clean 75 mm product to help create new embankments.

“At present we are obtaining 1,200 [metric tons] per day of clean product,” says Cordwell. “We usually have the C-12+ running with a three way screener if we are producing a 150 and 75 mm product, but at present we are using it to bulk produce just one size for the liners,” he adds.

Regarding the C-12+ units, Cordwell cites some specific features that have caught his attention.

“The controls are clear and simple to use.  I see little point in having lots of functions and computers if they complicate matters or they don’t actually work for the benefit of the operator,” he comments.  “On the maintenance side, the self lubrication idea is excellent.  It saves a lot of worry and time as you know the crusher has done it all for you.”

Cordwell continues, “The large grizzly bars are excellent for removing the fines and clay from the product. The long conveyor enables us to stockpile huge amounts without constantly having a wheeled loader in attendance. The jaws have a wider angle which means we seldom get jams.  After 20 years in the trade, I can honestly say this is one of the best crushers I have used,” he concludes.
