Turner Construction temporarily halted all operations on the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center (Cleveland MMCC) job site on Friday, Sept. 9 at 8:47 a.m. ET, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and remember those who gave their lives on that day and those who continue to sacrifice for American freedom.
The Cleveland MMCC 9/11 Moment of Silence was called by three horn blasts from Carlos Figueroa, Jr., Turner site safety manager, at 8:45 a.m. ET, suspending all work on the job with approximately 200 onsite workers shutting down equipment and suspending all operations for two minutes. Work resumed with the sounding of three additional horn blasts two minutes later.
Turner Construction provided “Never Forget” hard hat stickers and Red, White and Blue head bandannas to every worker on the Cleveland MMCC job site. A flag pole with an American flag was placed at the top of the Lakeside Avenue Truck Entrance. The Cleveland MMCC work site will fly an American flag on the work site from Friday, September 9 through Monday, September 12 as a tribute to 9/11 victims.
The project is aiming for LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Part of that includes achieving a 95 percent recycling rate during the construction and demolition. Construction is expected to be complete in the fall of 2013. The demolition prep work for the project, which was featured in the May/June issue of Construction & Demolition Recycling was completed by Independence Excavating, Independence, Ohio.
