T&T Iron & Metals, based in East Dubuque, is looking to open a construction and demolition transfer station in East Dubuque. The company will go before the city on June 21 on the proposal.
The company has 10 acres of land where it stores equipment, as well as some aluminum to be processed. The location is zoned for industrial use.
A spokesman for T&T says that the transfer station will only be used for unloading and loading C&D material, with recyclables such as ferrous and nonferrous metals extracted and processed at the scrap facility. No solid or hazardous waste will be handled at the site.
In addition to seeking approval from the city, T&T also will need to receive a permit from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to operate the facility.
In addition to operating as a scrap metal facility, T&T also runs collection of construction and demolition material. By receiving approval to handle C&D material, the company will be able to reduce its disposal costs by centralizing a location where it brings in its material.
