Trumbull County Land Bank, Warren, Ohio, was awarded $6.59 million in funds to demolish abandoned homes, a report by the Tribune Chronicle says. The award was the sixth highest amount of Hardest Hit funds from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency in the state.
Eighteen communities received new grant awards in a total of $191 million throughout the state, according to the report. Since the funding began, the Trumbull County Land Bank has received almost $5 million in four rounds. The land bank still has half of that amount to spend on demolitions in the city of Warren.
The land bank hopes to expand into surrounding Trumbull County areas with the new funds, the report says. One hundred homes are expected to be demolished over the next six months.
According to the report, the city originally expected $8 to $12 million in this round of funding. It takes between $5,000 and $8,000 to demolish the homes.
