Trucking Company Eyes C&D Transfer Station in Nantucket

State DEP issues preliminary approval to Reis Trucking.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued preliminary approval for Reis Trucking to construct a private transfer station for construction and demolition debris in Nantucket, according to a report in the Nantucket Island and Mirror (Nantucket, Mass.).

The island trucking company has submitted a proposal to build an enclosed, 10,000-square-foot facility that could accept 49 tons of C&D debris per day.

The facility would also be able to process asphalt, brick and concrete, according to the report.

Reis Trucking has entered into a lease with Nantucket Memorial Airport for a three-acre site for a period of 30 years.

The island produces approximately 15,000 tons of C&D debris per year, which is currently handled by the town’s landfill operator, Waste Options.
