An 800-space multi-level parking garage in Troy, New York, may be nearing an appointment with a demolition contractor, according to a local media report.
A report from Albany, New York-based Times-Union indicates the city government of Troy and the owner of the privately held garage are “working out the details” to start a four-month process of the closed Uncle Sam Garage.
The Times-Union says the five-story garage, built in 1974, has twice been shut in the last two years for safety reasons.
The current property owner, Troy-based Bryce Cos., had said it intended to “eventually” redevelop the 1.715-acre site, but an initial proposal has not proceeded, according to the newspaper.
The Times-Union cites a spokesperson for the Troy mayor’s office as saying Bryce Cos. has not yet obtained a demolition permit, but the city is “developing plans” to deal with any traffic impacts caused by the garage’s dismantling process.
