North Carolina-based SAS Institute Inc.’s Canadian headquarters in Toronto could be the first building in the city to attain the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, according to a report in the Globe and Mail (Toronto).
The $30-million headquarters is scheduled to be completed in late 2006, according to the report. If the structure meets its current goals, it will attain LEED Silver certification.
Among the chief green building features used in the construction of the building is abundant use of natural light, according to the report. The south and west elevations have floor-to-ceiling windows and the canopy roof has a large circular skylight.
The building is also designed to decrease water consumption with a rainwater collecting and recycling system and low-flow toilets.
