Three Indicted in Illegal C&D Dumping in N.J.

Jersey City men face fines, possible time in prison in two separate incidents.

Three Jersey City men have been indicted for illegally dumping construction and demolition debris in the Lafayette section of the city, according to a report in the Jersey Journal (Jersey City, N.J.).

Derrick Venable, 39, has been charged with illegally dumping C&D debris at Berry Lane and Communipaw Avenue on April 4, according to the report.

Venable faces a possible five-year prison term and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.

In a separate incident, Donald A. Stewart, 51, and Shawn R. Coar, 45, were spotted loading demolition debris into a U-Haul truck that did not have Department of Environmental Protection registration decals, a spokesman for the state attorney general tells the Jersey Journal.

Further investigation triggered by a Hudson County Improvement Authority worker revealed the truck had been reported stolen from an East Orange U-Haul establishment, according to the report.

Stewart and Coar were both charged with receiving stolen property and each faces a possible 18-month prison term and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted, according to the report.

“This has been a citywide problem ongoing for a long time,” Oren K. Dabney Sr., Jersey City Incinerator Authority chief executive officer, tells the Jersey Journal. “We are going to continue going after them until we get them all because we are not going to tolerate any illegal dumping in our city.”
