Temporary Fintec "Stop-Gap" Becomes Permanent

Lancashire Crushing commits to Fintec crushers and screens.

When Lancashire Crushing’s static primary crusher failed in December 2007, two Fintec mobile machines were turned to as temporary replacements to maintain production at Penmaenmawr quarry at Conwy, North Wales. Now, more than six months later, the England-based company is still employing the Fintec 1107 track-mounted mobile jaw crusher and Fintec 570 track-mounted mobile screen at the site.

Together with the two Fintec machines, a Caterpillar 320LC and a competitive cone crusher are allowing Lancashire to blast, collect and screen acid igneous rock from the Conwy Mountain, once an active volcano. The Fintec mobile crusher is producing a 100 mm grade material, which is then shaped by the cone crusher before being screened to the required 75 – 50 mm grade required for railway ballast. The screen also produces a valuable > 50 mm product, returning any remaining oversize back to the cone for further processing.

“Our previous screening equipment supplier couldn’t provide a viable deal on some replacement machines so we were forced to seek an alternative supplier,” Lancashire Crushing’s contract manager Dave Atkinson explains. “Initially, I was disappointed but with hindsight it was a blessing. After some initial negotiations, we agreed to trial the Fintec 570 and it’s proved to be an excellent choice.”

In fact, since beginning the trial, Lancashire has purchased two Fintec 640 screens, a 542 screen and the 1107 crusher.

Atkinson says the responsiveness of Fintec’s service department was a major factor in getting him to commit to the company’s products.

“We have only experienced a few niggling, bedding-in problems but Fintec’s service personnel have been on hand instantly to resolve any issues quickly and without fuss,” Atkinson says.
