Strike-bound Gypsum Plant to Close in New Brunswick, Canada

CGC Inc. announces plans for permanent closure following 10-month strike.

 

The Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada has condemned CGC Inc.’s decision to close down its gypsum processing plant in Belledune, New Brunswick, Canada, where workers have been on strike since April 2004, according to a release from the union.

 

A subsidiary of Chicago-based construction material manufacturer USG Corp., CGC Inc., which is headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, has announced the New Brunswick plant will close April 15, 2005.

 

The plant processes gypsum generated by neighboring power plants.
