Steinert US relocating to Northern Kentucky

Equipment maker and distributor moving from Florida to Cincinnati region.

Steinert US (SUS), a provider of separation equipment for the scrap metal market, has announced that it will be relocating its North American headquarters from Clearwater, Fla., to Northern Kentucky in November, 2009.

In a news release, the company says it will occupy 7,500 square feet of space in Erlanger, Ky., which is located in Boone Countyacross the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. Steinert US will move its entire parts warehouse and administrative office to the new location.

Incorporated in 2003, Steinert US was initially a 50/50 joint venture of Steinert Metalloxd Inc (SMI), and Southern Recycling of St. Petersburg, Fla. SMI took over an additional 26 percent share of Steinert US at the beginning of 2009. In May of 2009, Steinert asked the new president of SUS, Jason Looman, to increase SUS’s presence in the waste and mining markets.

“We are aggressively introducing our premiere separation equipment into the waste, mining, minerals and aggregates markets,” says Looman. “After examining all markets, we realized that our additional customer base and our existing customers were located throughout North America. Driven by a need to show our commitment to these markets, we decided our headquarters should be centrally located in the United States,” adds Looman.

After an extensive search that involved considering cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis and Nashville, Tenn., and Charlotte, N.C., the Northern Kentucky location near Cincinnati was chosen “because of its central location in the United States; its access to a major airline hub; its diverse workforce; and its [proximity] to major universities such as Cincinnati, Xavier and Northern Kentucky,” according to the news release.

“We are pleased that Steinert US, led by Jason Looman, chose Northern Kentucky after a thorough search and look forward to working with this growth company,” says Gary Moore, Boone County Judge Executive and Chairman of Northern Kentucky Tri-Ed. Tri-Ed worked directly with Looman to identify a location for the company.

“We finalized on the location in Northern Kentucky because we liked its existing infrastructure and its commitment to international companies,” says Looman.

SUS is part of the larger Steinert group of companies based in Cologne, Germany, that designs, builds and sells magnetic and sensor sorting equipment.
