Sky Quarry Inc., a Woods Cross, Utah-based company that has proposed processing scrap asphalt shingles at its facility in its home state, has appointed Marcus Laun as interim CEO.
Laun replaces his fellow Sky Quarry co-founder David Sealock, who was terminated in late August for cause pursuant to the terms of his employment agreement, according to a document filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
According to that Form 8-K document, filed in early September, Sealock was dismissed after a special committee of the Company’s board of directors met Aug. 28. The same document says on that same date, Sky Quarry President, Interim Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President and Board Director Laun was appointed as interim CEO.
Laun is a co-founder of the company who has more than 25 years of capital markets experience, having held senior roles in finance and advised on digital asset initiatives such as tokenization and exchange development.
This summer, Sky Quarry announced it was exploring digital asset strategies and engaging in a crowdfunding revenue-generating effort.
“I am both excited and encouraged by the opportunities ahead,” Laun says. “Our integrated business model, combining recycling, refining and digital assets, positions us to deliver both environmental and financial innovation. Traditional industries and the digital revolution may seem worlds apart, yet the two are complementary and together create even greater potential.”
In the news release announcing Laun’s appointment, Sky Quarry says it considers its proprietary technology designed to process the more than 15 million tons of asphalt shingles discarded annually in the U.S. as one of its three core assets.
