SKB Rosemount Industrial to Hold Demonstration Project

The SKB Rosemount Industrial Waste Disposal Facility, headquartered in Hennepin, Minn., will be submitting a proposal to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to conduct a demonstration/research project in an effort to increase metals recycling at its facility. The facility accepts mixed-municipal solid waste (MSW) combustor ash from the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) for disposal that contains residual metal. 
 

With the demonstration project agreement, SKB Environmental Inc. will look at ways to segregate, wash and clean the residual metal from the ash in order to have the metal acceptable to a metal recycler. In addition to cleaning the metal, SKB will investigate several ways to treat and dispose of the wash waters that are generated during the cleaning process. 
 

The entire project would take place within the lined ash cell and would only involve wastes the facility is already approved to accept. A requirement of the submittal for demonstration/research projects to the MPCA is to notify neighbors within a one mile radius.
