Australia-based Sims Ltd., which operates metal and electronics recycling facilities on three continents, says its “leadership in addressing climate change has been recognized by CDP for the first time with a score of A-minus.”
London-based CDP, which describes itself as a global nonprofit that operates an environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions, assessed the environmental disclosures of nearly 15,000 companies in 2022.
“We are delighted to be recognized by CDP as an environmental leader, and we will remain focused on accelerating our sustainability ambition to create a world without waste to preserve our planet,” says Alistair Field, managing director and group CEO of Sims Ltd.
“Our portfolio of businesses are an integral part of the circular economy, which is critical to limiting emissions and preserving natural resources,” Field says. “We also integrate climate action into our business key performance indicators to ensure that we are delivering on our growth strategy and purpose, as well as enabling decarbonization in critical sectors."
Sims says it has put its climate change action plan up for an advisory vote among its shareholders, and it was endorsed by voters representing 89.6 percent of issued shares. The company says it has reduced carbon emissions by 21 percent from fiscal year 2020 levels.
Last month, Sims committed to the Action Declaration on Climate Policy Engagement, a joint initiative of Corporate Knights and the Global 100 Council. This year the firm also was included on the first-ever Financial Times/Nikkei Asia Climate Leaders Asia-Pacific list.
With roots tracing back to 2917, Sims employs 4,400 employees who operate from more than 200 metals and electronics recycling facilities in 15 countries, including the United States.
