The Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA), Chichester, N.H., has helped form a co-operative effort to boost shingle recycling in New Hampshire
The co-op essentially provides a shingle grinding service, offering to “pick up stockpiled shingles and leave an equal amount of recycled aggregate material” for a cost of from $59 to $69 per ton, according to an item in the Full Circle newsletter published by NRRA.
The co-op’s organizers say the price is an attractive one compared to the costs incurred when communities have to pay to haul and dispose of shingles, as well as pay for new aggregate for roadway patching and repair work.
According to the Full Circle item, one New Hampshire town of 4,400 residents is recycling 100 tons of shingles annually, saving $30 per ton in handling/disposal charges, for a total cost savings of $3,000.
New Englanders interested in finding out more about the program can contact the NRRA at (603) 798-5777.Latest from Construction & Demolition Recycling
