Sessler Wrecking recently completed the demolition of the Interstate 64 eastbound bridge over the Hampton River in Virginia as part of the I-64 Hampton Road Express Lane Project.

The Waterloo, New York-based demolition contractor says it removed 150,000 square feet of bridge superstructure and 5,200 cubic yards of substructure, including underwater sections, requiring precise coordination of barge-based operations.

Underwater hydraulic hammers guided by Trimble 3D technology dismantled the structure and cut all protruding rebar flush. Sessler says concrete debris was carefully managed and barge-based material handling was coordinated using clam bucket-equipped machinery. All site operations were closely monitored to maintain safety and compliance.

Working in a challenging river environment, complex tasks were executed while protecting surrounding infrastructure and maintaining navigational safety. The firm says each operation demanded careful planning, coordination and skilled execution.
