The government of Schuylkill County in eastern Pennsylvania says it has been awarded $2 million in state grants to go toward demolition projects in the county.
The announcement was made by County Administrator Gary Bender in early March, according to an online report from Skook News. According to that online media outlet, Bender made the announcement in front of a former high school in the county that it describes as “falling into disrepair since the 1970s.”
Additional elected and appointed officials took part in the announcement event, and they named several communities in the county that would likely benefit from the grants by being able to take down abandoned properties considered nuisances or eyesores.
Skook News quotes Pennsylvania State Senator Dave Argall as saying, “I believe that our demolition program is one of the best in Pennsylvania. We are hopeful that these dollars will be utilized by communities across the county, large and small, for more than 80 different demolition sites [that] are now being identified by county and local officials.”
