San Jose Mayor Proposes Green Building Policy

Policy calls for new commercial, industrial and residential construction to implement green building features.

San Jose, Calif., Mayor Chuck Reed has proposed a green building policy that will require the private sector to meet green building standards.

City Council is set to vote on the matter on Oct. 7.

The Private Sector Green Building Policy calls for new commercial, industrial and residential construction to implement sustainable features, including increased energy efficiency and diverting material from landfills.

“Green buildings make sense environmentally and fiscally,” says Reed. “With energy costs rising and an uncertain future for our state’s water supply, it makes sense to build homes, offices and research development campuses that conserve resources.”
