San Francisco Hotel Earns LEED Certification

Orchard Garden Hotel is the third hotel in the U.S. to be LEED certified.

The Orchard Garden Hotel in San Francisco has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

San Francisco’s first hotel to earn the green building distinction, the Orchard Garden is only the third hotel in the U.S. and fourth hotel in the world with this certification.

The 86-room, $25 million new construction is set in the heart of San Francisco.

LEED certification was based on a number of green design and construction features. From the building’s framework and construction practices to guest room and public space lighting and décor to housekeeping, the Orchard Garden boasts environmentally many sustainable practices, according to a press release from the hotel’s management. Eco-friendly construction materials include concrete made with fly ash and wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as harvested in a sustainable manner. One environmentally sustainable construction practice diverted debris from landfill disposal by redirecting recycle material back to the manufacturing process.
