New Jersey recycler expands capabilities

Samr Recycling Inc., Lakewood, New Jersey, has announced it is offering new recycling services, including those for electronics, with its upgraded facility that is designed to accommodate larger recycling orders from towns, businesses, schools, hospitals and government entities.

According to the United Nations, 20 million to 50 million tons of e-scrap are generated every year, with the United States contributing 9.4 million to this number.

In a recent interview, Albert Boufarah, CEO of Samr, said that aside from the company's core services of electronics recycling pickup and drop off, interested parties may now contact the company for secure data destruction, lamp and ballast recycling and battery recycling. Electronics such as those with a plug or battery, including laptops, desktops, servers, printers, monitors, televisions, cellphones, networking equipment, keyboards, mice, batteries, wires and cables, are also now accepted by Samr for recycling.

Most electronic and IT equipment contains several hazardous and toxic chemicals, such as lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury, which is why e-scrap should only be handled by licensed companies. Samr offers live load pickups where the crew removes and packs the e-scrap on pallets that the company supplies. Samr has more than 150 trucks and trailers.
