Sabre Demolition Corp., based in Baldwinsville, N.Y., recently was awarded the contract to perform the demolition of the RCA Dome, located in Indianapolis, Ind. The domed stadium has been in use in the city for more than 20 years. The winning bid for the demolition job was $3.5 million. According to news reports, various bids on the project totaled as much as $8.6 million. There were a total of 13 bids for the job.
Matt Dixon, president of Sabre, said that the demolition project should start April 1 and be complete by the middle of October.
While the company is now headquartered in New York State, it had previously had its headquarters in Indiana.
The company expects to do a fair amount of recycling of materials pulled out of the demolition project. Dixon expects the company will be able to recycle rebar, steel, metals and concrete from the facility.
Replacing the sports stadium will be an expanded convention center.
