The Washington state Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced that it will begin testing rubberized asphalt on a section of southbound Interstate 5 in August, according to a report in the Seattle Times.
One test segment of asphalt will have a blend of rubber recycled from old tires and another will have fiber and polymer blended in, according to the report.
Officials from the DOT hope the result will be quieter roads. The work on the eight-mile stretch of highway should be finished by the end of the year.
