Rubberized Asphalt Bound for Some California Roads

CIWMB grants fund recycled roads in Los Angeles County.

Recycled tires are being used to repave some streets and sidewalks in Los Angeles County with funding from the California Integrated Waste Management (CIWMB)-approved Targeted Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Incentive Grants, according to a report in the Whittier Daily News (Whittier, Calif.).

According to the report, 20 grants totaling more than $3.1 million have been allocated since January to local governments in Fresno and L.A. counties.

The new roads save up to $20,000 per lane mile and use up more than 2,000 scrap tires over the same distance, according to the report.
