Rhode Island City Bans New Cement, Asphalt Plants

Ordinance approved unanimously.

The City Council of Cranston, R.I., has approved an ordinance banning new cement and asphalt plants in the city, according to a report in the Providence Journal (Providence, R.I.).

The ordinance was drafted following complaints from a West Cranston neighborhood over a rock crushing and cement mixing operation proposed by D’Ambra Construction Co., Warwick, R.I.

The law was approved unanimously, according to the report.

However, revisions to the law are already planned because while it bans cement and asphalt plants, it does not include concrete plants.
