Residents Continue to Fight C&D Burning in Maine

Citizens’ group protests proposal to burn C&D debris for electricity.

Members of several environmental citizens’ groups have continued to protest the burning of construction and demolition debris in Maine, according to the report in the Bangor Daily News (Bangor, Maine).

The groups staged a rally on Jan. 9 outside the State House with more than 50 people, according to the report.

The protesters want the state to ban the practice of burning C&D wood debris. The state is currently pursuing new regulations to restrict burning, in response to a proposal for a new incinerator in Athens, Maine, and a Georgia-Pacific Corp. paper mill in Old Town, Maine that is waiting for permission to burn wood debris in a biomass boiler.
