A variety of material from concrete to bricks to scrap metal has been removed and recycled from the former Pillowtex mill complex in Kannapolis, N.C., according to a report in the Charlotte Observer (Charlotte, N.C.).
D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. of Greensboro, N.C., plans to recycle 80 percent of the material generated by the demolition project, according the report.
About 500,000 tons of material will be recycled from the nearly 6 million-square-foot site.
Bricks and concrete are being crushed into 400,000 tons of gravel, which is being used as fill on the site and to help build temporary roads.
