Recycling Plan Draws Concern from California Town Residents

Tierra Verde Industries plans to build composting facility near Irvine Lake.

An Irvine, Calif.-based recycling company’s plan to build a composting site near Irvine Lake has drawn some concern from the residents of nearby Villa Park, Calif., according to a report in the OC Register (Santa Ana, Calif.).

Tierra Verde Industries has proposed to build a facility that will accept landscaping clippings and shrubs for composting at a site 150 feet from the eastern edge of the lake, which supplies water to Villa Park, Calif., according to the report.

As part of the plan, recycling of other materials, including wood, construction debris and residential green waste, will take place at other locations.

Some residents have expressed concerns that the company’s operations could contaminate the town’s drinking water, according to the report.
