R. Baker & Son Demolish and Dismantle LNG Vaporizers

The procedure took less than a month and was completed without injury.

R. Baker & Son All Industrial Service (R. Baker & Son), Red Bank, N.J.-based dismantlement and demolition company, recently completed the demolition of three liquid nitrogen gas vaporizers at a facility in New Jersey. The vaporizers were shut down in early 2008 and were confirmed as asbestos free.

Prior to demolition, R. Baker & Son made necessary disconnects, rerouted piping and isolated mechanical systems from the vaporizers. Additionally, due to the proximity to active operations, various safety measures were implemented.

After isolating the vaporizers, R. Baker & Son began demolition by first torching the legs of each vaporizer. Then, utilizing a 75,000 pound excavator with shear, the units were lowered to the ground and moved to the nearby staging area to be cut into scrap metal.

Finally, R. Baker & Son prepared the main concrete foundation for grading. All surface protrusions such as bolts and grout were removed to create a smooth surface. Final grade was accomplished by covering the area with 4 inches of ¾ clean stone.

The successful dismantlement and demolition took less than a month and was completed without incident or injury.
