Proposed C&D Recycling Facility Goes Before Zoning Board

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has approved a proposal by Serota Properties, Valley Stream, N.Y., to build a recycling facility for construction and demolition debris in the town of Hempstead, N.Y., according to a report in the Herald (Garden City, N.Y.).

The facility would occupy the site of the former Gator Recycling Corp., a company that recycled C&D debris, which closed in October 2003, according to the report.

The proposal went before the Hempstead Zoning Board on Jan. 4 to obtain a variance to raise the roof on the property’s existing building from 25 to 35 feet to allow all recycling, dumping and loading of materials to be done indoors.
