Proposal for Rhode Island C&D Transfer Station Denied

A proposal to build a construction and demolition transfer station in Pawtucket, R.I., has been ruled illegal by the state Supreme Court, according to a report in the Providence Journal (Providence, R.I.).

The court announced in its decision that the transfer station, which would have been built on an old rail yard, is not authorized by the city’s Zoning Ordinance.

The project was first proposed in 2003 by Pawtucket Transfer Operations and would have been capable of handing up to 2,000 tons of construction debris per day.

The transfer station would have been built on an 8-acre site that Pawtucket Transfer Operations leased from the Providence and Worcester Railroad.
