Plans Approved for Facility in U.K. Recycling Village

Bottom ash recycling plant to locate in Beeley Wood development.

Planning approval has been granted for a bottom ash recycling facility run by Ballast Phoenix that will be located in the 45-acre Beeley Wood “recycling village” site in Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

The Loxley Land and Property subsidiary of Euro Decommissioning Solutions (EDS) has been re-developing the site, a former industrial location at which EDS undertook what it calls “a comprehensive dismantling program of [buildings] on the site following its acquisition some 24 months ago.”

In a news release, Loxley and EDS say their vision for the site is “to create a long-term, sustainable recycling village for a variety of organizations with varying requirements for [custom-designed] facilities.”

The Ballast Phoenix facility that has been approved is being designed to recycle the bottom ash being generated by Sheffield’s largest waste-to-energy plant.

“This planning approval confirms our early belief that Beeley Wood, due to its scale and strategic positioning, presents an excellent opportunity for locating recycling organizations,” says Eldon Stevens, property manager for Loxley Land and Property.

“EDS is the only decommissioning company in the world that has ISO certifications 9001, 14001 and 18001 for each and every one of its business streams,” continues Stevens. “We are incredibly proud of this recognition for our professional and environmental conduct, and as such are well placed to work with other major blue chip companies such as Ballast Phoenix.”
