A riverfront Brownfield site in Pittsburgh is being redeveloped in a new partnership between civic and community leaders in Pittsburgh, a report by pittsburghgreenstory.com says.
The 178-acre site was occupied by LTV Steel until it closed in 1998. According to the report, local foundations purchased in the site in 2002, which has undergone remediation, infrastructure and planning since then.
An $8 million renovation of the existing Mill 19 building is planned for the site, as well as the construction of a 65,000 square-foot net zero energy mixed use development with housing, offices, research and development, light manufacturing, retail, parts, trails and transportation being housed on the site, the report says. The ride request app Uber, based in San Francisco, is the site’s first tenant and using a portion as a test site for self-driving vehicles.
