Milliken Carpet, LaGrange, Ga., has announced it has kept all materials out of landfills for the fifth year in a row, according to a release from the company.
“We are the first manufacturer in the textile and carpet industry to reach this goal and one of a very few major manufacturing companies to achieve this level of success in landfill diversion,” says Bill Gregory, director of sustainable initiatives for Milliken.
A division of Milliken & Company, Spartanburg, S.C., the company adopted the goal of sending zero materials to landfills in 1990. According the company, it eliminated chemical materials from the landfill path 16 years ago. Steel containers, white and colored office paper, glass, metals, yard debris and tires have been absent for 13 years.
The company also diverts cardboard containers, fiber, yarn and fabric materials, coal ash and wood pellets toward recycling applications.
