Pennsylvania DOT to Use Recycled Materials on Highway Project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (DOT) has plans to use recycled concrete in the reconstruction of a stretch of Interstate 79, according to a report in the Post-Gazette (Pittsburgh).

The project will use crushed concrete from a 6.6 mile stretch of roadway between the Ohio River and Interstate 279 in Franklin Park, Pa., as base for a new asphalt highway, according to the report.

Some $9 million of prep work was done during the fall and winter. Trumbull Corp. and Lindy Paving Co. will begin the two-year, $61 million main project work on April 2, beginning with the northbound I-79 lanes.
