The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced that Eureka Stone Quarry Inc. paid a civil penalty of $41,000 for fugitive emissions and record-keeping violations at two of its quarries in Bucks County, PA.
“We believe that Eureka has now taken the steps necessary to prevent future air quality violations at these facilities with the hiring of staff to help implement compliance measures,” said Joseph Feola, DEP’s regional director. “DEP staff will continue periodic inspections to ensure these facilities are operating in compliance with their permits.”
Air violations were noted during inspections conducted at the two quarries from October 2000 through September 2003 for fugitive dust emissions and record-keeping violations. Some of these inspections were conducted in response to complaints received concerning dust.
Rush Valley Quarry operates a stone crushing plant and three asphalt plants. Chalfont Quarry, located in Warrington, operates a stone crushing plant along with one batch asphalt plant. Both facilities are owned by Eureka Stone Quarry Inc. of Chalfont and hold DEP air quality operating permits in addition to their mining permits.
