The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will be accepting bids for the removal of Detters Mill Dam in Warrington and Dover townships.
The Detters Mill Dam, built in 1852, is 200 feet long and seven feet high. It creates a pool nearly two miles long.
Bids to remove the dam will be advertised in the Pennsylvania Bulletin on March 5 and a pre-bid conference will be conducted on site March 16. DEP will open bids on April 1.
Removal is expected to take 10 to 14 days and will involve breaching the dam at a weak spot near the middle, allowing the water level to stabilize, then breaking apart and removing the remaining materials.
For more information on the dam project go to the Pennsylvania DEP’s web site, www.dep.state.pa.us. Type in the key word Water Management.
