Peña’s Disposal, a recycling firm based in Cutler, Calif., has announced plans to start accepting cartons for recycling at its MRF in Cutler. Pena’s initiative is part of a national initiative by the Carton Council to increase the recycling of cartons throughout the country.
According to Peña’s, the company is the first recycler in the area to accept juice, milk, soy, broth and other beverage and food cartons. The company will place a roll-off container at its MRF where it will hold the cartons. The baled cartons will be sold to the Carton Council.
“Peña’s Disposal is on the constant search for viable markets for recycled material,” says Carlos Garcia, Peña’s Disposal’s recycling coordinator. “The Carton Council‘s initiative has guaranteed an outlet for cartons, and we are excited for the new opportunity to add them to our stream.”
“We are excited that Peña’s Disposal is on board with carton recycling, providing an enhanced recycling opportunities for the valley,” says Jeff Fielkow, vice president of recycling for the Carton Council. “Peña’s Disposal is demonstrating its commitment and leadership by offering this new standard for recycling programs.”
Peña’s Disposal’s MRF takes in curbside collected recyclables, containers through California’s CRV (California Redemption Value) program, household hazardous waste, green waste, electronic scrap and construction and demolition waste. The family-owned company also provides curbside waste pickup in unincorporated areas of Tulare and Fresno counties.
The company operates three lines at its MRF: one for single-stream, one for construction and demolition material and one for composting.
