The Pasadena City Council has approved a report calling for an ordinance to apply green building standards to future construction projects in the city, according to a report in the Arcadia Weekly (Pasadena, Calif.).
If approved, the ordinance would require city construction projects seek the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
The ordinance would initially cover projects with 5,000 square feet or more of new construction, non-residential buildings of 25,000 square feet or more and other larger projects, according to the report. Smaller projects could be included once the program is launched.
