The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comments on a proposed shingle recycling facility in Tigard, Ore. The company, Northwest Shingle Recyclers LLC, Portland, Ore., is seeking to obtain a solid waste disposal permit to open the facility. The company also operates a DEQ-permitted material recovery facility in Portland. The DEQ says that Northwest Shingle Recyclers does not have any permit compliance issues to date.
In its initial submission, Northwest Shingle Recyclers says it plans on accepting residential roofing wastes from pre-screen, commercial contractors and roofers with signed agreements. The plant will not be open to the general public. In its application, Northwest says that wood, metal, plastic and paper generated from the roofing material will be sorted into separate bins and sent to other recyclers for further processing.
Written comments are due by July 13, 2011. They can be sent to NSR-SW Comments, c/o Holly Pence, Solid waste Permit Coordinator, DEQ Northwest Region, 2020 SW 4th Ave., Suite 400, Portland, OR 97201. The permit being sought will expire on Aug. 30, 2019.
